Spacebar Astronaut Ice Cream Branding
Hypothetical Identity
Scope: Logo design, branding, illustration, website design,
Spacebar is a small, artisinal restaurant specializing in all things space-related. Tang, space food sticks, dehydrated ice cream, the works! This project is only hypothetical, but it was a great opportunity to wrap my head around the e-commerce world and develop a website that was fun and unique.
Process
I started by developing a backstory for the restaurant and defining what makes it unique.
Once I figured out the general theme of the restaurant and its offerings, I started fleshing out some brand direction concepts.

Solution
The brand revolves around the distinctive wordmark I drew by hand, based on some lettering examples I saw on old pulp novel covers from the ‘60s. The website is structured into flat planes of color that allow the brand’s distinctive illustrations to shine. For these illustrations I again looked to imagery found in cookbooks of the ‘60s.
Conclusion
I had a great time developing the brand of such an interesting, albeit hypothetical, client. If any retired astronauts out there want to start a restaurant, I’m interested!
