Case Study
Kogalla Branding
Client: Kogalla
Scope: Logo design, branding, product design
Kogalla is an outdoor brand focused on creating products that give adventurers the freedom to explore, like solar panels, battery packs, etc. I was able to join the team at the very beginning and participate in the naming process, brand positioning, logo design, and the very first implementations of the identity on products, packaging, and beyond.
Process
After we came up with a unique and memorable name, the next step was to design a logo. We knew it would work best if the logo itself was the name of the company, instead of an abstract symbol. For inspiration, I looked to similar brands like Patagonia, Petzl, and Burton, whose legacies have proven that a strong typographic logo can stand the test of time.
Solution
The Kogalla logo is simple and bold, and is constructed from pure shapes that make it easy to reproduce at any size. I wanted to capture a feeling of ruggedness in the logo while keeping it friendly, so I created custom lettering with some familiar characteristics of 1970s phototypesetting as a nostalgic nod to logos of the past.
As the company grew, I was able to create a suite of sub-logos for various Kogalla products using a custom typeface I developed exclusively for the brand:

Conclusion
It never fails to put a smile on my face when I see a logo that I designed being used on physical products, and Kogalla was the first company to give me that opportunity! Visit their website to see the full suite of products for yourself.
